Star Coins

Every collector has different motivations for collecting, and deciding what to collect, but we all have at least one thing in common. There are particular items in our members' collections which are favourites. They may not be the rarest, or the most valuable, or the most attractive but, for whatever reason, they are the coins which really ring the bells!

This section highlights a few of these special items, and we'll try and give some idea of why they are favourites.

The first up is a One Penny Piece issued by the Sierra Leone Company. The eighteenth century was a period of extreme formality and symbolism in design. This coin broke that mould.

Next we have an unusual Tealby Penny. All Tealby Pennies are unique, but this one, just possibly, may be a little more unique than most.

Edward VII gold sovereigns are valuable, but not rare. The sovereign which forms the subject of 'Priceless Sovereign' is a common variety, but with a unique story, the end result of which is that, to its owner, it's not just valuable, it's priceless.
